Strong wind today, so we will have a rest day !

Wednesday, August 1st, 2001

The stability is again showing up in the morning and almost no clouds are in sight from the takeoff. Light south west wind is forecasted and Basilio Silva, the task setter, choose a task toward Andorra (located in the east of Castejon de Sos).

This 110km task seems difficult in the stability, but after a difficult start where the pilots are struggling in low points, they finally manage to get altitude from thermal to thermal... 2700m, 3200m, 3700m, 4000m !

The rythm accelerates and the task finally ends by a sprint. On the two third of the task, the pilots are crossing a windy valley who creates big changes in the final result. The leading group is passed by pilots who got more altitude. The task ends with a never ending final glide at full speed. At this game, veteran pilots like Hans Bollinger (CH) know when to take risky decisions. He chooses to start his glide from a lower altitude and luckily find a convergence that brings him to the goal ahead of the leading group.

76 pilots are reaching goal !

Hans Bollinger (CH) wins the task, followed by Kaspar Henny (CH) and Jean-Marc Caron (F). for the women, Louise Crandal (DEN) finished first, followed by Petra Krausova (CZ) and Eliane Ueltschi (CH).

Hans Bollinger is now leading the Castejon de Sos competition ranking, followed by Alex Hofer (CH) and Peter Von Känel (CH). The women ranking remains the same.

In the PWC ranking some important changes are appearing as one more task is discarded (1 task discarded every 3 tasks). Peter Brinkeby is still leading, followed by Patrick Berod and Peter Von Känel. For the women, Louise Crandal is still leading, followed by Eliane Ueltschi and Petra Krausova.

Today's weather forecast is giving stability in the lower layers and instability at higher altitudes. The chosen task will then go to the higher mountains to catch instability and better lift.

The task is 89km long and goes to the east side then back to the west side of Castejon and back to Castejon. Pilots can find good thermals and some of them go up to 3500m with lift of more than 7 m/s and enjoy a beautifull scenery around a little lake.

74 pilots are reaching goal. One pilot deploy his reserve and get help from two other pilots who get some bonus points.

A group of 4 swiss pilots are the first to reach goal: Alex Hofer (CH) wins the task, followed by Kaspar Heny (CH) and Steve Cox (CH). For the women, Louise Crandal (DEN) is winning, followed by Nicole Nussbaum (CH) and Caroline Brille (F).

On the Competition ranking, Peter Brinkeby still leads. He is still followed by Alex Hofer and Hans Bollinger like yesterday. For the women, Louise Crandal moves to the first place, followed by Nicole Nussbaum and Petra Krausova (CZ).

The PWC overall remains unchanged for the first 3 pilots, as well as for the 3 first women.

Monday, July 30th, 2001

Today's task is almost 97km long. Less cloud overdevelopments and risk of storm allow the Task Committee to choose a longer task than yesterday.

69 pilots are reaching goal after a little more than 3 hours.

Peter Brinkeby (SW) is again winning the task ! He is followed by Alex Hofer (CH) and Vincent Sprungli (F). For the women, Nicole Nussbaum (CH) is also winning again ! She is followed by Louise Crandal (DEN) and Petra Krausova (CZ) exactly like yesterday.

On the Competition ranking, Peter Brinkeby naturally leads after winning both tasks. He is followed by Alex Hofer and Hans Bollinger. For the women, the ranking is also easy to find... Nicole Nussbaum then Louise Crandal and Petra Krausova.

For the PWC ranking, Peter Brinkeby is still leading, followed by Patrick Berod (F) and Jean-Marc Caron (F). for the women PWC ranking, Louise Crandal is still leading, followed by Nicole Nussbaum and Petra Krausova.
