• 20/06/98 The task director "Pierre Naville" decided to set for the last competition day a task of 117 km, despite a stable low layer the pilots were reaching the Roc des Boeufs at the other side of the lake. The first pilots went full South to the Margeriaz. Only Patrick Berod and Olivier Nef managed to get out from the Margeriaz. 30 other pilots crossed to the West in the direction of the Semnoz. This choice prooved to be much better. They came back from the turnpoint "La croix du Nivelet" using the same way. Further, on the West faces it is too late to find a lift, most of the leading pilots are landing on the East side of the lake of Annecy. Steve Senior was the first of the group to cross back over the lake, but no one managed to get up after that transition. Only a few of them managed to pass the mountains of "La tournette" and "Les Dents de Lanfon". Patrick Berod being the winner of the day, flying an amazing 110 km, followed by Andy Hediger (108 km). During this task many pilots flew 7 hours !! The total of kilometres flown by all the competitors during this competition was 41380 km.
  This task was finally won by Patrick Berod - France flying with an Edel Sector, 2nd place Andy Hediger - Switzerland flying with an Advance Omega 4 and 3rd place Martin Brunn - Austria flying with an Nova - X-Pert.

• 19/06/98 - Take Off at "Le Lachat " in Grand Bornand, the organisors wanted a selective task so they set one of 100.53 KM. The weather forecast announced an arriving stability and this caused some turbulent conditions in the thermals. Turnpoint 0 at the "Col des Anes" behind take off - then start point next to take off, 1st turnpoint "Col du Fer" at 20 KM from "Le Grand Bornand". 2nd Tpt at the Roc des Boeufs, above the lake of Annecy, pilots, then, had to fly to the 3rd Trpt "Prelaz". A distance of 34,6 Km was separating these 2 turnpoints then pilots had to go back to the 4th and last one which was "le Col des Anes" and Goal at "Le Grand Bornand". Also today 68 pilots arrived at goal !!! Winner of the task   : Peter Lüthi from Switzerland flying with an X-Pert - Nova, then at the 2nd position Fred Escriba - France also flying with an X-Pert - Nova, 3rd place David Dagault -France (XXX-Airwave).

• 18/06/98 -  The conditions allowed us to take off  from the mountain "Le Lachat" - 2050m high The North wind died down and excellent flight conditions were waiting for the pilots. Pierre Naville and the 2 pilots of the pilot committee decided to set a task of 87,5 km. This task is one of the most tactical and interesting that can be run in the Grand Bornand Area. To reach the turnpoints the pilots needed to cross the "Bornes" massive in several delicate area.  The day is beginning this a non-evident meteo, lots of cirrus zone are hidding the sun. The "Lachat de Thone" makes a first hard place dividing the comp in little group. High speed to Annecy where the pilots need to reach the "Veyrier". The first group is stoped by weak conditions during the climbing of  "Dent de Lanfon". The group is stretching again on the way to "le Cret du Loup" in "la Clusaz". The goal line is flown but two turn points are still remaining. Something totally different in the "Petit Bornand" valley : big cliff and stronger valley wind. This place was decisive and maked the final order. The end of the run, the "col des Annes" turnpoint do not allow any come back. Rob Whittal is flying low and fast, Hausie Bollinger is just following him. They are first to goal. Robbie thinks that the line is crossed and begin to do wing over... Hans finally win!!!

• 17/06/98 - The organisation decided to take off at the top of the mountain "Le Lachat" in Grand Bornand,  when all pilots were arriving, the North wind was much too strong. All pilots and organisation staff had to go down and take the buses to go back to the Take Off of Montmin in Annecy. A task of 76 Km was organised with a start at Verel (St Germain) under the take off. The 1st turnpoint was in the middle of the Bauges massif. Lot's of cirrus were covering the hole sky, but thermics were still strong. The return of Jarsy's church (first turnpoint) was probably the hardest part of the task. Around 30 pilots landed there. The remaining group of pilots was progresively stretching but the speed remained very high. The next and last turnpoint was situated at the west side of the Aravis mountains, past the Grand Bornand. This made a lot of different options to pass the lake and reach the Aravis. Some pilots reached the mountain of Sullens coming from the Tournette. This was the best way. Zebulon Roche took the head and passed the last TP in first position. But his low altitude forced him to fly carrefully and he was finally beaten by an anonimous pilot : Rob Whittal! flying on his Cult - Firebird!!     91 pilots reached Goal on this task!!!

• 16/06/98 - The week is beginning by a very beautifuf task of 59km. The morning was rainy and even if the meteo was optimistic, it was hard to think that competitors may fly a task like this : Take off near the lake of Annecy; start point at quater to four!! The gliders are crossing the lake twice; lot of tactics and options; a turn point under the clif of Parmelan; and then a goal to the Grand Bornand. Hans Bollinger confirm his come back after Fiech, he's winning this task with panach.
