Saturday, July 9th, 2005 - 51.7km race with 86 pilots in goal...
Last task in Sicevo for this competition with a lot of pilots in goal after two tasks with nobody reaching goal ! Mathias Roten wins the task, followed by Urban Valic and Denis Cortella. On the women side, Ewa Wisnierska is first, Marina Olexina is second and Karin Appenzeller is third. Christian Maurer wins the competition, Charles Cazaux is second and Luciano Tcacenco Bender is third. Ewa Wisnierska is the first women in the competition, followed by Karin Appenzeller and Petra Krausova is third. Christian Maurer now leads the World Cup ranking, followed by Patrick Berod and Charles Cazaux. For the women, Petra still leads the World Cup ranking, followed by Ewa and Karin. Friday, July 8th, 2005 - 95.6 race...
With south west wind forecasted, a similar task to the first day is set, a 95.6 km race to goal to the north east, along the Bulgarian border. The first 20 km are on the ridge over Sicevo, and back to the take off. The conditions are looking perfect but they are not ! When others enjoy cloudbase, quite a few pilots are landing at the beginning or when coming back from the first turnpoint. Then, the flatlands wich were great on the first day, are almost blue. Max Jeanpierre is leading but, not to go alone, he is waiting for the gaggle before going to the flats. There, there are few thermals and even front wind at the end. The first gaggle is making around 50 km and finally, the second gaggle is going further . It brings again new names in the front of the ranking ! Luciano Tcacenco from Brazil is flying 62.7 km with Damjan Cretnik (Slo, 58.3 km) and Karin Appenzeller, first woman, (CH, 57.3 km) behind ! Christian Maurer follows Karin very closely ! But the "highlight" of the day happens during the retrieve. One military truck is speeding and turning over in a curve ! Some pilots manage to jump out of the truck but others remain it. They have to dig the ground to escape !! (see the impressive pictures !). Michael Schlepfer is stuck 20 mn under the truck. He thinks his leg is broken. Fortunately, after going to hospital, he comes back very soon. Incredibly, nobody is hurt . Thursday, July 7th, 2005 - 67km elapsed time... As the wind is turning west, everybody is moving to the west take off. With a little take off, low cloudbase, late window opening and winddummies going up very slow, an elapsed time is choosen. The goal is set in the east, on the football field of Pirot, on the road to Bulgaria, with a turnpoint 10 km further. The conditions are finally good and a big gaggle is forming over the take off. Time is running, but the pilots are waiting ! Finally, they go after a lot of shouting in the gaggle "let's go, let's go !" Too late ! 20 km further the conditions are not so good anymore. The World Cup pilots are used to race to goal with a start at a fixed time, they probably forgot how to fly different tasks :-) The best choice during the course is to stay in the hills, far from the road. Because of too much waiting, everybody is late and nobody will make goal. New pilots take the opportunity to be at the top of the ranking. Slawomir Matras (Gre) wins with 62.4 km and Claudia Bulgakow (Pol) is the first woman with 60.3 km. Wednesday, July 6th, 2005 - Rain... no task Tuesday, July 5th, 2005 - 89km race...
Today's team podium The weather has improved and the sunny sky is back over Sicevo take off. With the sun, the white rocks and the smelly herbs, the take off reminds the atmosphere of Provence in the southern french alps. Alex, the meet director, Xavier, the technical delegate and the pilots committee, Davide Licini and Andreas Malecki set a 89 km race starting at 13:30. The first 25 km are along the ridge over Sicevo and back to the take off. The landscape is great ! Then, the 70 km race in the flatlands starts ! According to Patrick Bérod, the french living legend of "parapente", it is similar to Governador Valadares or Piedrahita. Staying high and west side of the clouds pays. The pilots are navigating around 55 and 65 km/h, and sometimes with the speedbar over 70 km/h, over the green fields and cities of Serbia. After the strong conditions of the previous events, the World Cup pilots finally enjoy a task with nice thermals, no strong wind , many places to land, 2:30 hours of flight and many pilots in goal ! Everybody is smiling and enjoying the beer offered by the organization ! The swiss club is first in goal with Michael Witschi , the undestructible Hans Bollinger and Christian Maurer arriving in a few seconds. They all score 1000 points ! Ewa Wiesnierska is the first women only 2mn 37 s behind the leaders, in 29 th position ! Spaelti is the first team in front of Gin Factory Team. Monday, July 4th, 2005 - No task today because of the cloudy sky... Saturday, July 3rd, 2005 - No task today because of the rain...
