Last task for this 2005 World Cup tour !

We finish the tour with a beautiful task of nearly 100km. Cloudbase was around 4000m, but only half of the pilots reach this altitude, the others stay at 2000/2500m.

There was almost no wind, and strong thermals (some at +8 m/s) and breeze are creating changing winds all over the task.

The pilots are jumping from one cloud to the next until the goal.

Michael Witschi is the first to reach goal, Christian Maurer is second and David Ohlidal third. Ewa Wisnierska is the first woman in goal, Keiko Hiraki is second and Anja Kroll is third.

Torsten Siegel wins the competition, Marco Littame is second and Christian Maurer is third. Ewa wins the competition, Keiko is second and Anja is third.

Christian Maurer is our 2005 World Cup Champion, Max Jeanpierre is our 2005 vice-Champion, and David Ohlidal is third on the podium.

Ewa Wisnierska is our 2005 World Cup female Champion (20th in the World Cup overall 2005), Petra Krausova is second and Karin Appenzeller is third.

Friday, August 12th, 84km task in progress

Less wind, but still strong conditions at take-off for this 2nd task...

The task is divided in two parts, the first one with 3 turnpoints close to the take-off area, then the second one as a long leg of more than 40km to the goal in the south.

The leading group come on a last ridge 10km from the goal, but sink and lose time to reach the goal. The second group pass over them as they climb higher in the thermal before this small ridge.

Rüdiger Gördes is the first pilot in goal, followed by Torsten Siegel and Tomas Brauner. Petra Krausova is the first woman in goal, with Ewa Wisnierska second and Anja Kroll third.

Torsten Siegel leads now the competition, Marco Littame is second and Stéphane André third. On the women side, Ewa is first, Karin Appenzeller is second and Keiko Hiraki is third.

No change in the World Cup podiums, Christian Maurer stays first, Max Jeanpierre second, and Patrick Bérod third. Same for the women, Ewa is first, Petra second, and Karin third.

Nothing is final for the overall podium as Frank Brown is just 59 points behind Patrick Bérod and the next 3 pilots are less than 150 points behind...

Still too much wind... no task for today. Tonight we have our General Assembly in Manteigas.

Wednesday, August 10th, no task today

No more forest fires, but the wind and the clouds do not allow do fly a task today...

Tuesday, August 9th, no task today

More wind and the forest fires are still not under control. In Manteigas, ashes are falling all over the place and the closest fires are only a few kilometers away.

The fire is visible on the live webcam located at take off...

Monday, August 8th, no task today

The wind is strong, and the forest fires nearby prevent to have a safe task because of fire fighting helicopters flying in the area.

Saturday, August 6th, registration and training day

Hot, hot, hot and dry weather !

Up to 42°C at landing and headquarter... some pilots fly around 3200m altitude to cach some cool air.

Sunday, August 7th, 64km race and 76 pilots in goal

Still hot hot hot... windy and dusty at the takeoff !

Today's task is very simple... one turn point then goal close to the spanish border... for a total of more than 64km.

The final glide of some pilots is done at an incredible ground speed above 100km/h as the tail wind is pushing them to the goal starting with a maximum altitude around 3200m for some of them.

Marco Littame is the first in goal with Americo Sousa second and Jean-Marc Caron third. Ewa Wisnierska is the first woman in goal, followed by Karin Appenzeller and Keiko Hiraki.

Christian Maurer keeps his leading position in the World Cup ranking, but Max Jeanpierre takes the second place, and Patrick Berod in now third. No change for the women ranking... Ewa stays first, Petra second and Karin is third.
