Saturday, May 8th, 2004 - Race of 30km...

The weather has again improved over yesterday, but is still snowy and rainy...

A short race is started from the same take off as the first task we had on monday.

Christian Tamegger (A) is the first in goal and followed by 54 more pilots. Matthias Raab (D) is second and Hausi Bollinger (CH) is third. Caroline Brille (F) is the only women in goal. Louise Crandal (DEN) is second and Petra Krausova (CZ) is third.

Christian Tamegger wins the competition, Paolo Zammarchi (I) is second and Achim Joos (D) is third. Louise Crandal wins the competition, followed by Karin Appenzeller (CH) and Caroll Licini (CH).

Bruce Goldsmith (GB) is still a the top of the World Cup ranking, followed by last year's champion Achim Joss and Christian Maurer is third. Louise Crandal is again at the top of the World Cup ranking, followed by Petra Krausova and Karin Appenzeller.

With only 3 tasks, the world cup ranking has a great chance to evolve a lot in the next event in France (Talloires), Turkey (Kayseri) and Mexico (Tapalpa).

Friday, May 7th, 2004 - Elapsed time task of 37km... 1 pilot in goal !

The weather has slightly improved today... almost no rain, so we all move to the second take off for a short 37.7 km elapsed time task.

The small take off is still covered by snow and the cold wind is bringing some snow more snow falls on the take off.

Only one pilot reach goal, it is Norman Lausch from Germany, and only 2 other pilots are flying the validation distance that was set to 30km. This means that the task is scored for the Abtenau competition results on 150 points, but is not included in the World Cup ranking. Norman is low first in the Abtenau competition result.

After a complaint filled by several pilots, the task is cancelled by a jury decision on Saturday morning.

Monday, May 3rd, 2004 - Race to goal of 40km

It's a sunny day ! Wind forecast announces 15 to 20 km/h SW but fortunately Abtenau valley is quite protected.
After a 40 mn drive, the 129 pilots are walking ten minutes up to the Trattberg take off (sometimes paragliding is a real sport !). The previous week the road was still closed because of the snow but the organization has been taking care of the snow removal ! The take off is big and grassy with some patches of snow allowing all pilots to prepare their gliders.

As an increasing wind is forecasted and to ensure a valid task Peter Brandlehner, the meet director, proposes a short fast interesting task.
It's a 40km race to goal along the north side of the valley. The take off gaggle is hot because of the small and cyclic thermals.
As the race is fast, as expected, pilots have to be very sharp to know when to stop to catch altitude. Only one error lead to a big loss of time.

Achim Joos and Oliver Rössel are crossing the goal line in the same second, both scoring 1000 points. It gives the first rank in the overall nation ranking to Germany !

Louise Crandal is back at the top finishing first woman of the task, only 10 minutes after the German duo. Karin Appenzeller and Carol Licini are just behind.

With Stefan Wyss and Stefan Morgenthaler, the Spaelti team is first. Alex Hofer being the worst pilot of the team ! In the overall team ranking Spaelti is now first with Parapente Mag in second position. Not less than three teams are sharing the third position : Aerotact, Gin and UP.

In the World Cup overall after two tasks (Italy and Austria) Bruce Golsmith is taking the lead.
