November 14th, 2003 :

All pilots are moving again to the north takeoff in Bellemmene as some strong south winds are forecasted.

Low cloudbase and rain are preventing the task to be achieved and no pilot is reaching the validation distance. This means that the task is not scored.

Only one more task can be flown tomorrow before we get the final 2003 World Cup ranking and know who will be the 2003 World Cup Champion... Achim or Alex or ?

Thursday, November 13th, 2003 :

First race to goal in this Reunion Island World Cup event !

The task is 50km long with only 3 turnpoints. The main difficult point (Plateau Cailloux) is avoided which makes some pilots very happy. The flying conditions have greatly improved and lift is more consistent compared to the previous days.

19 pilots are reaching goal and Torsten Siegel (D) is first for his very first time in the World Cup despite his very good overall results (Torsten was 4th in the 2002 World Cup ranking). He is followed by Tomas Brauner (CZ) and Jimmy Pacher (I). For the women, Elisabeth Rauchenberger (CH) is first in goal, followed by Lena Alfredsson (SWE) and Caroll Licini (CH).

Jimmy still leads the competition but Norman Lausch (D) gives his second place to Toni Caniglia (CH). For the women, Elisabeth and Caroll are still 1st and second, but Caroline Brille (F) gives her third place to Petra Krausova (CZ).

Now let's have a look at the new World Cup ranking...

Alex Hofer got another bad result today as he lands 19km before the goal. Achim Joos (D) take the first place in the World Cup ranking with 7993pts and Alex is now at the second place with 7974pts, only 19pts difference after 13 tasks. Stefan Morgenthaler (CH) is now third in the World Cup ranking with 7731pts and only 25pts ahead of Christian Maurer (CH). On the women side, no change in the ranking with Petra still leading, followed by Elisabeth and Caroline Brille (F).

Wednesday, November 12th, 2003 :

The beginning of the task is easy with good thermals (+4 m/s) around the takeoff and a cloudbase above 1000m. With these conditions, the pilots flew rapidly to the first turnpoint, and they come back also rapidly. But then the "Plateau Cailloux" flat with north wind becomes a cimettery of the hope of many pilots. Effectively, "Plateau Cailloux" is in the night, no sun can giver thermals. Some pilots make work around this difficulty and only one pilot, Normal Lausch (D) finally reaches goal.Only 19 pilots are reaching the validation distance, so this task is not valid for the World Cup Ranking and is scored on 950pts.

So... Norman Lausch is the firsdt and only pilot in goal. In today's results he is followed by Christian Maurer (CH) and Jimmy Pacher (I). For the women, Caroline Brille (F) is first. She is followed by Caroll Licini and Karin Appenzeller both from Switzerland and both landing at 17.3km.

Jimmy Pacher is now leading the competition results, Norman Lausch is second and Toni Caniglia is third. Elisabeth Rauchenberger (CH) and Caroll Licini are still leading the competition result, but Caroline Brille now takes the third place instead of Petra Krausova.

No change in the World Cup Raking as this task is score on only 950pts.

Tuesday, November 11th, 2003 :

Pilots are discovering a new launch area in Bellemene, close to St Paul and Le Port.

A 67km speed run is started but many pilots launching early are having trouble finding enough lift to reach the startpoint and the first turnpoint.

The last one leaving the launch area get more sun and more lift allowing them to reach 30km.

Stefano Pucci (I) is winning the task with 32.2km, followed by Jérôme Varoqui (F) and Toni Caniglia (CH). For the women, Karin Appenzeller (CH) is winning the task with 30.5km, followed by Caroll Licini (CH) and Petra Krausova (CZ).

Toni Caniglia is now leading the event ranking, followed by Jimmy Pacher (I) and Hans Bollinger (CH). Elisabeth Rauchenberger (CH) is still leading the event ranking but Caroll Licini now takes the 2nd place, and Petra Krausova stays at the third place.

Alex Hofer (CH) still leads the World Cup ranking, but has lost half of his advance. Achim Joss (D) is still second and Stephan Morgenthaler (CH) is now taking the third place. For the women, no change in the World Cup ranking... Petra, Elisabeth and Caroline keep their place.

Monday, November 10th, 2003 :

Second task on the Island...

The take-off area is in the clouds during almost all the morning, with some rain.

At 11AM, a briefing is made, defining a speed-run of nearly 40km. Most pilots are quite surprised by this decision, but within 10 minutes, the cloudbase is rising and the rain stops... allowing the task to be flown.

Strong south wind is causing some trouble to some pilots, and some even have to land in a big canyon called "Grande Ravine". They will get out of it by helicopter !

13 pilots are reaching goal after a little more than 90 minutes of flight.

Stefan Wyss (CH) wins the task, followed by Normal Lausch (D) and Hans bollinger (CH). For the women, Elisabeth Rauchenberger (CH) is first, followed by Nicole Nussbaum (CH) and Petra Krausova (CZ).

Hans Bollinger and Elisabeth Rauchenberger are now first in the competition ranking.

Alex Hofer (CH) is still leadinf the World Cup ranking, followed by Achim Joos (D) and Oliver Rossel (D). For the women, Petra Krausova (CZ) is still leading the World Cup Female Ranking, and is followed by Elisabeth Rauchenberger and Caroline Brille (F).
