24 - 30 March 2003
Ibaraki Prefecture Website: Location - History and culture
Monday, March 24th, 2003First day first task in Ibaraki !What a race for this world tour beginning : 104 pilots reach the goal along the flatland.
As the task was a Speed Run and as the condition where expected to improve, the departure happened to be very tactical. Many pilots managed to stay for at least two hours. It was funny to see sometimes ten pilots leaving the start when Alex Hofer was moving as if he decided to go...
The competitors where riding in little gaggle finding their way over the japanese landscape. Some big convergences allowed them to fly very fast and only the best lift where used.
As the race was very fast and many pilots reached the goal, score devaluation is very high after the winner :
Scotty Marion (USA) wins the task, followed by Helmut Eichholtzer (A) and Alex Hofer (CH). For the women, Petra Krausova (CZ) was very fast today, pushing her at the 8th place in the overall results. She is followed by Elisabeth Rauchenberger (CH) and Caroll Licini (CH).
