All the pilots are moving once again to Annecy at Montmin take-off...Cloudy sky and showers do not allow to have a task today.
All the pilots are moving to Annecy at Montmin take-off. The sky is cloudy, but the meet director expect some improvement...After three cancelled days, some pilots are staying at home as the conditions are still looking bad. Bad idea for Stefan Morgenthaler and Volker Nies as they miss a quite unexpected day !
The meet director Fred Mellet decides to go to Annecy as he expected clearings should come first from the west. At take off , a little shower is refreshing the atmosphere before the breafing. A speedrun of 49 km is set with turnpoints in Le Veyrier, Parmelan, Duingt Castle and goal in La Clusaz.
As the conditions are still bad nobody is taking off when the window is opening at 14:50. After half an hour the conditions are bettering as expected. Bollinger and Sprungli are taking off first. They go up and everybody is following them. They enter first in the start point, 2 km after the take off, but decide to come back to make another start later.
The task is very interesting as the pilots have several possibilities between turnpoint 1 and 2 and also to reach the goal. One more time they cross the Annecy lake twice.
52 pilots are making goal ! 19 are flying the task in less than two hours. The winner is "speedy" Sprungli with an incredible time of 1h 35 mn, twelve minutes in front of the second, Hans Bollinger !
To complete the list of the "old but still good" pilots, Jimmy Pacher was visiting his old World Cup friends and made goal also ! Only two girls are in goal, Eliane Ueltschi from Switzerland and Irina Ivanova from Bulgaria. But just ! Irina is crossing the line and touching the ground one meter further ! The Gin team is first with Heichholzer and Lausch followed by the Parapente Mag team. Thanks to this result the Gin team takes the overall lead !

Irina Ivanova (BUL) at launch...
Pedro Moreira (POR) having some problems with left and right...
Vincent Sprungli (F)... today's winner taking off
Nikolaï Shorokov (RUS) doing some "parawaiting"Wednesday, July 2nd, 2003 - still bad weather
No change...Tuesday, July 1st, 2003 - strong wind and rain, no task
Thunderstorms and rain is expected...Monday, June 30th, 2003 - strong wind, no task
Again, the strong wind does not allow to have a task today...First task : 108 pilots in goal !With south wind forecasted by Sebastien, meteorologist and student pilot, Fred Mellet the meet director send the 127 pilots to the Montmin take off over the lake of Annecy. The local school, Les Volatiles, welcomes the World Cup pilots by letting them use the whole take off. Thanks !
The conditions are looking weak but the winddummies starts to go up around 13:00. The level of the wind dummies is very high. Most of them, like Stephane Drouin or Brett Zaenglein, have been taking part to the previous World Cup but don't have a sufficient ranking to take part to this well attended french World Cup.
The first turnpoint is other side of the lake with the 65 km race starting at 14:30. Back to the Dent de Lanfon, the pilots go then to the Parmelan. Easy one way but harder the other way in front of the wind. A new crossing of the lake brings the leading gaggle to the Roc des Boeufs where the pilots enjoy an astounding thermal. Some of them reached 3400 m. It's unusual but the pilots coming back from Roc des Boeufs are higher than the pilots going there !
After another cloudbase around La Tournette, the top pilots reached the goal in La Clusaz in less than two hours ! Elizabeth Rauchenberger remembers a final glide when she was always going up to finally cross the goal line with an altitude over 2000m ! Conditions were quite turbulent but after a tiring flight, everybody is happy. The swiss team cleaned up followed by the germans. Petra Krausova, 59th, is the first woman in goal and UP1 is the first team with two pilots (Hofer and Maurer) in the top 3.
For the next days, the conditions are looking bad with the southwest wind increasing.
