Another day with sun, clouds, thermals and a task ! With south-wind forecasted, a task is initially set with a goal 53 km to the east. But the wind forecast seems wrong, the wind is more east than west ! This is probably due to the big mountains south of Erzincan (pronounce "ErzinJan"). The wind has to go around them and is coming then from both sides. A new task is set that is a lookalike of the previous day: a 49 km race to goal with the first two turnpoints in the flats but very close to the hills and a more difficult turnpoint at the end. Some pilots go into the mountains up to 3500m, others take a more direct route over the foothills.

The fastest route is a combination of both.

A very similar day to yesterday with first and second place fought for between Achim and Hans again... but today Hans won by 38 seconds, a slightly larger margin than the 1 second in the previous task. Helmut Ebner from Austria made a brilliant 3rd place.Louise today is once again first woman, but Petra also made goal to maintain her overall lead in the Worldcup.

Achim Joos is currently leading the competition, and Scotty and Alex are tied for 2nd place....

An especially interesting battle, as the winner of the competition will be invited to the Reunion Island Open (Pre-World Cup) in November, all expenses paid!

Speaking of travel, interested pilots in the China Pre-World Cup (this October) in Linzhou are still welcome to register.Contact the PWCA office at pwca@pwca.org for more information.

Also in todays flying news: Charles Cazaux demonstrated a new aerobatic maneuvre after crossing the goal line at 5 meters altitude, performing a touch-and-fall over the top of the ambulance....the pilot escaped unscathed, but the ambulance was a bit injured and will need some repairs.
