Monday 19th - Task 2.

21H37.   200 km !!! The pilots are still somewhere in the North of Sierra Nevada but we know they have flown the biggest task
ever in the history of Paragliding World Cup. Juan Morillas choose a free distance on an axis to make the best of the South-West wind
and the cloudbase expected to reach about 4000 m. At almost 10pm, we are still waiting for the pilots to come back at the PC.
Who is the winner and how far has he been ????    Next news : in the night when the pilots will arrive.

Sunday 18th - Task 1.

125 pilots from allover the world are in Sierra Nevada for the second event of the Millenium world cup. On saturday, registration day, pilots are flying
in the evening. Conditions are quite strong but they enjoy a wonderful and freezing cloudbase of 4800 m. The next day, saturday, starts the first task.
Conditions are not looking very good in the morning but finally the window is opening with almost nil wind at the Cauchiles take off, 2 800 m high.
The task is a race to goal with a startpoint and three turnpoints. It’s 50 km long and looking like an Indianapolis race. Conditions are unstable over 2500 m
but not under.
The first turnpoint is high in the mountain. From there the pilots have to go out of the mountain as the following turnpoints are near the city of Granada.
The pilots, flying in big gaggles, don’t find any kind of lift during 25 km. Arriving at turnpoint 3 after such a long glide, the first gaggle of about 35 pilots
find a good thermal going up at 2 or 3 m/second. The final run is a race to climb the mountain as the goal is at the same place as the take off, at 2800 m.
The leading gaggle of 10 pilots is trying to go up on the eastern side of the ridge going to take off. But, it doesn’t work. The second group is making cloudbase
before arriving at the mountain. The game is now to catch enough altitude to reach the highest goal of the PWC tour. The Austrian Martin Brunn (Nova Krypton)
is crossing the goal line first followed by Ondrej Dupal (Tchek Republic, Gradient Avax) and Thomas Stivanello (Switzerland, Nova X-Pert). 87 pilots are in goal.
The first females are Nicole Nussbaum (CH, Advance Omega proto), Sandie Cochepain (F, Edel Millenium) and Louise Crandal (Den, Gin Boomerang),
all in goal.
Also in goal are the serial class pilots Olivier Loiodice (F, Flying Planet Whisper), Andrew Smith (SA, Apco Bagheera) and Olivier Thurman (Swe, Bagheera).
The task was not very long but it was the best to do on that day’s conditions. The organisers made a very good choice.
